Artist Statement

SS-About.jpg

I am passionate about bringing people closer to the Cosmos with my artwork. I believe there is so much unchartered mystery in the Heavens to be imagined and explored in new ways. I find when people can retreat their imaginations into Outer Space, stepping back to consider humans as a tiny blip in the Universe, there is a shift in perspective that occurs which evokes a solidarity with the Human Race. In a world where we are constantly being reminded of what separates and divides us as humans, my work as an Artist is to bring people together by grounding them in Outer Space.

I am an abstract painter who is heavily influenced by the Cosmos and Abstract Expressionists of Modern Art. As a student of modern dance, I find action painting to be the most beneficial to me and my work; the movement of action painting almost feels like I am dancing with my work. Painting purely from intuition and imagination, the act of painting for me is a meditative experience, which is what I have always cherished most in my career as an Artist. I paint with acrylic and with acrylic inks which gives my work a watercolor-feel. By working in flux, I feel guided to go with the flow, and let the art reveal itself to me in the process.

Artist Bio

Kristen Pobatschnig is an abstract painter from the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  After obtaining her BFA in Studio Art from Colby-Sawyer College in 2006, she has been painting and exhibiting her work throughout New England ever since. In 2014 she co-founded the Femme Fatales of the North, to promote the presence of women artists by documenting their artistic endeavors, while pairing their work with the surrounding White Mountains. In 2015 she began her Colors in Space clothing line which she is still developing.  In 2017 she has recognized as one of the top 11 artists to watch in the state by New Hampshire Magazine. In May of 2017 she was commissioned for a public art installation at Settlers Green in North Conway, NH. She is passionate about bridging the Arts with the Sciences, and is currently collaborating with Carthage College’s Astronomy Department to create a series of paintings based on data obtained at Kitt Peak National Observatory.
